It has been about 2 weeks that I am back in India (specifically, Delhi) after 1.5 yrs and as the cliche goes the more things change, the more they remain same. Landing in the airport, driving through a traffic jam at 2 in the night, the jet lag wasting the first few days and then gradually settling down to a month of rest, relaxation, family and a more familiar milieu.
The 1.5 yrs in US had been fun and already there are problems aplenty here but somehow one really doesnt bother too much about the noise, the crowd, the chaos when one can be with people who have shaped so much of your life.
And the most pleasurable thing is to give back. To give back for all the troubles that you caused so many people and to feel a genuine happiness at seeing you after so long. And also to try to make it a better place not like the west but a better India.
For it is only after experiencing a different system, one appreciates that some of the procedures here are not just mayhem. That there is a method in the madness. Driving in some parts of Delhi, one learns that the roads were not originally meant for automobiles. For many roads were designed to handle the cycle-rickshaw wallahs and cyclists and pedestrians. So the autodriver has no business demanding the right of way. It also teaches a lot of patience and respect for the other(even if he has no respect for you!) Ah but these are all trivial matters!
There was a Delhi blogger's meet, wish I had got to know of it a bit earlier and had gone there and met some interesting people.
